If you have a modern Oracle version of Java, you can tell from the command line by typingjava -versionin Terminal. Currently, this should produce a response such asjava version "9.0.1"Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 9.0.1+11)Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 9.0.1+11, mixed mode)
Do You Need Java For Mac
Java continues to develop, and vulnerabilities are found in current and older versions which need to be fixed in updates. If you were to have an old, vulnerable version of Java 8 installed, and left it open for any website to use, you could end up running Java malware, which would be seriously bad news. Although not likely, you should not expose your Mac to that risk.
A Java Development Kit (JDK) is a software development environment used for developing Java applications. In order to run Java within Visual Studio Code, you need to install a JDK. The Extension Pack for Java supports Java version 1.5 or above.
Note: If you have multiple JDKs installed and need to use a specific JDK version for your projects, see Configure Runtime for Projects. To enable Java preview features, see How can I use VS Code with new Java versions.
You can use VS Code to read, write, run, and debug Java source file(s) without creating a project. VS Code for Java supports two modes, lightweight and standard. Lightweight mode is ideal for scenarios that only deal with source file(s). If you want to work with a full-scale project, standard mode will be required. You can easily switch from lightweight mode to standard mode, when needed. To learn more, see Lightweight Mode.
You can determine which version of the JDK is the default by entering java -version in a Terminal window. If the installed version is 9 Minor 1, Security 1, Patch 1, then you see a string that includes the text 9.1.1.1. For example:
When you run a Java application from the command line, it uses the default JDK. If you do not develop Java applications, then you do not need to worry about this. See Determining the Default JDK Version on macOS.
Some applications use /usr/bin/java to call Java. After installing Java for macOS 2012-006, /usr/bin/java will find the newest JDK installed, and will use that for all of the Java-related command-line tools in /usr/bin. You may need to modify those applications to find Java 6, or contact the developer for a newer version of the application.
3. A new window with the command prompt should appear. In it, type the command java -version and hit Enter. The output should display the Java version installed on your Windows system.
The top menu of SPSS 25 may disappear if the Mac OS system is set to Non-English.The official MacOSX 10.13.1 version do not have this issue. So, if you encountert this issue you need to update your Mac OS version to latest official 10.13.1 build from Apple.
Note: Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite) was released on Thursday, October 16th 2014 by Apple after Statistics 22 was released. If you like to use Statistics 22 on Yosemite you need to install Statistics 22 Fixpack 2 as well. Statistics 22 FixPack 2 and release Statistics 23 are fully tested on Yosemite OSX 10.10. So if you like to run Statistics 22 on Yosemite please install Statistics 22 FixPack 2 and also read the section below:
If you need SAP Secure Login Client, we show how an S-user can get hold of the installation media for that (this particular software might not be available to P-users, but then again SSO tends to be found more in organisations than in the SAP POC world of SAP Community developers).
There are three main ways to do this. The first way, if you have an SAP S-User with the appropriate permissions for downloading SAP software, is described below. The second way is if you do not have such S-user with special powers, but maybe you work in the same organisation as someone with such an S-user, and they may be able to provide you with the needed JAR archive or DMG. The third way works if you have a P-user (only for JAR archive), and is also described below (thanks to Declan McArdle for pointing out this third way in the Comments section).
From the top right you can login to this SAP site using your P-user, so do that as only logged in users can download the software available on this site, In March 2022 you need to scroll near to the end of this page, you are looking for the package called SAPGUI for Java:
So typically you would have the remote server file being specified in Preferences, and then any new or copied-then-modified items that you create, are being saved locally in SAPGUILandscape.xml (though most users will not need or want to make new entries).
Next, I recommend to logout, and log back in again. If you are working remotely, make sure after logging in again that you have (re-)connected to the corporate network using VPN. (Because it is only if your computer is connected to corporate network, that the Secure Login Client is going to be able to get the stuff it needs to do secure login).
(c) Reinstall the SAPGUI client (e.g. as shown above in this blog; if using the JAR method then make sure you have suitable java and javac versions available and environment variables set); then get any needed local xml files back into the (regenerated via install) folder: /Library/Preferences/SAP/
Actually, now I just realised by testing with a DMG, that this blog needed quite a bit of modification to accommodate people who prefer the nice n easy DMG method for installing. So quite a few changes made. E.g. a new Search-string for those who don't have an existing SAPGUI client and need to wade through the Software Downloads site using Search.
I think that the official SAP Software Downloads site is the only authorised location from which you could get this client. But, you would need to talk to someone from SAP if you need to check this further.
b) Initially I failed to find th snclib that is required for connection to a SNC secured backend, but I managed to get the sap crypto lib to be plugged in. An important step was tos et an environment variable called SNC_LIB_64 to that lib to enable SAPGui for java to find it.
For issue (a) it is difficult for me to confirm that the SLC is not available for download for non-SAP-SSO subscribers, as the organisation I work for has subscribed to the SSO product, so as we see in the blog I can easily download the SLC. (As a law-abiding citizen I am not going to distribute SAP's property onwards, so people need to work out themselves what are the allowed ways to get this software).
Initial attempts to use use SNC with SAP GUI for Linux fails - error: cannot find file sncgss.so. I downloaded the SAPCRYPTO Library and will use the file libsapcrypto.so by setting the environment variable SNC_LIB to point to it in my users .profile file - I put all content of SAR in my /sec directory. (A possible alternative might be to create a soft-link called sncgss.so pointing to libsapcrypto.so - have not tried). You will also need to use the sapgenpse utility.
Create a PSE in your /sec directory (or, alternatively you can use different directory but you would need to also set the SECUDIR environment variable). Seems like you need to use the name SAPSNCS.pse for the PSE file (I tried different name and that did not appear to work):
To uninstall Java in Windows 10, click Start and select Settings. In the Settings window, go to System, select Apps & Features on the left menu, wait for the list to populate, find and select Java in the list. Click Uninstall, and confirm. To uninstall Java in older versions of Windows, you need to go to the Programs & Features of the Control Panel.
Do you need Java at all? It really depends on what you do on your computer, what websites you visit and what other programs you have installed. Here are some apps and websites that require Java to function properly:
Instead of deciding to uninstall Java completely from your computer, consider disabling it when not in use. This saves you the hassle of downloading and installing Java again every time you have a need for it.
When you have installed a 64-bit LibreOffice, and 32-bit JRE, LibreOffice would not be able to find and use the JRE, no matter how hard you would try it. Take care that you download from the Java home page (www.java.com) the right architecture. In this case, LibreOffice (of reasonably fresh version) would try to be helpful in its "JRE Required" error message, telling you that it needs specific architecture (e.g., 64-bit) of JRE.
On macOS 10.10 and newer, please note that you need to install JDK, not JRE. You may find download links choosing JDK version on this page. Note that Apple M1 is an Arm 64 architecture. On macOS 10.09, neither JRE, nor JDK are found.LibreOffice releases available from Apple App Store don't include Java support at all, because apps distributed in the App Store are not allowed to depend on optional functionality like Java.
At one time, Java was absolutely necessary if you wanted to be able to use your computer for, well, just about everything. Today there is less need for it. A growing number of security experts recommend not installing Java if you don't already have it, and perhaps even getting rid of it if you do.
Perhaps the easiest way to tell whether or not you need Java is to first disable it entirely. If you regularly use an application or visit a Web site that requires Java, your system or the site will prompt you that you need to install or re-enable Java. You may find that you don't need it and don't miss it.
You can get some protection by disabling it in the browser."If you need Java for specific Web sites, a better solution is to adopt a two-browser approach. If you normally browse the Web with Firefox, for example, consider disabling the Java plugin in Firefox, and then using an alternative browser (Chrome, IE9, Safari, etc.) with Java enabled to browse only the site(s) that require(s) it.With that said, it is up to you.
As soon as you have latest Java you're reasonably safe. Oracle doesn't provide free java for macOS after April 16, 2019. Currently most complete set of Java binaries provided by Azul. It has binaries for Apple Silicon. 2ff7e9595c
